The St. Louis Rams will have Philadelphia Eagles free agent wide receiver for a Thursday visit, according to Adam Caplan. After the bigger name receivers were snatched up early in free agency, Smith is part of a second-tier where the Rams will be looking for help at the position.
Smith was supposed to be part of the dream team in Philadelphia last year, but his season mirrored the Eagles' season. Smith ended up on injured reserve with a bone bruise in the same left knee that cut off his 2010 season. Even before the injury, Smith rarely saw the field for the Eagles.
If he is healthy, Smith could be a real asset for the Rams. With the Giants in 2009, he caught 107 passes for 1,220 yards and seven touchdowns. Health is a big 'if' for Smith.
Smith was a very good possession receiver for the Giants. Even at just 5'11" he could work in traffic in the middle of the field.
Smith is the in the building at the same time as Packers center Scott Wells. Ideally, the Rams would prevent either player from leaving.
