NFL Free Agency 2012: St. Louis Rams Ready To Roll With $30 Million In Cap Space

Yesterday was bloody Monday at Rams Park. The team released a handful of veteran players and let all of their unrestricted free agents walk as the new coach and general manager start the process of rebuilding. Together, the cuts add roughly $20 million in cap space on top of approximately $10 million the team already had.

Free agency starts at 3:00 p.m. Central on Tuesday, and the St. Louis Rams figure to be busy. Which players could be on the radar?

By releasing Justin Bannan, Ron Bartell, Jason Brown, James Hall and Fred Robbins, the Rams carved out close to $20 million in cap space. Also getting their walking papers were Nick Miller, David Nixon and C.J. Ah You.

Most curious is the absence of Jason Smith on this list. Reports earlier in the offseason said that he would be asked to take a pay cut or be released.

Names to keep your eye when free agency opens today:

Cortland Finnegan - The Titans cornerback has been linked to the Rams since Fisher was hired. He will have plenty of teams interested in his services, and will cost a pretty penny. He would be a great fit for the Rams as he can play in the slot corner role very well.

Jason Jones - A young defensive tackle with a knack for getting pressure. The Rams really need to sign this guy to replace the defensive tackles they cut.

Vincent Jackson - Will the Rams be bidders for Vincent Jackson? Given the lack of interest in Justin Blackmon, you have to wonder if they don't plan to pursue a free agent.

Pierre Garcon - The Colts wide receiver would be a good addition, but only at the right price. He is reportedly seeking starting money.
