Monday has been a busy day at Rams Park. After releasing a pair of veteran defensive tackles and offensive lineman Jason Brown, the St. Louis Rams have released veteran cornerback Ron Bartell, according to Brad Biggs of the National Football Post.
The move is not entirely unexpected.
There has been talk since Jeff Fisher was hired that the Rams would release Ron Bartell. He landed on injured reserve last season with fractured vertebrae in his neck. Bartell has since been cleared to resume football activities, but the extent of his injury is still unknown.
Releasing Bartell frees up $6.2 million in cap space. This was the last year of his contract.
With the release of Justin Bannan, Fred Robbins, Jason Brown and Bartell, the Rams have freed up more than $16 million in cap space. Add that to their projected amount of $10 million, and the Rams have ample room under the cap to make a splash in free agency.
