March 9, 2012: The Greatest Day of My Rams Fandom

Yesterday was the greatest day I've experienced as a St. Louis Rams fan, and I'm not over exaggerating. It is by far the best. The Ram received 3 first round picks and a second for one draft pick! This is by far the best chance the Rams have since I became a fan to build a great team and return to what St. Louis once had in the Rams. There is no reason not to feel great about the chances to rebuild this lackluster franchise into a consistent winner.

Now some may say, how can this trade be the greatest moment for you as a Rams fan? What about the Super bowl? Well, the problem is - I'm too young to remember anything about the Super Bowl. I was six years old when the Rams won the Super Bowl and I have no memories of it, and only vague ones about the 2001 Super Bowl. When I was younger, I wasn't interested in football. Like my father and most from the St. Louis area, the number one sports team that I loved was the St. Louis Cardinals. I only occasionally watched football.

The first moment I remember from a Rams game is this - Have a look after the break...

This amazing moment was in 2006, and for me is considered the start of myself being a fan of the Rams, even though this game ended in a loss. I started watching football and I realized how much I loved it. The strategy, the athleticism, the passion, Torry Holt being awesome and all the rest hooked me in. I found my love for football and for the Rams.

As the 2007 season began, I was among the many Rams fans that had high expectations. The team went 8-8 the previous season and had a QB who was playing with great weapons around him. Little did we know what that season held in store.

Since 2007, the Rams have only won 15 games and have lost 65. The worst record of any team in the NFL over that stretch.

Many people of my generation gave up on the Rams. In my schools, jerseys and shirts of other teams, mostly the Colts and the Steelers, were far more prevalent. Maybe it was just embarrassment that caused the Rams fans of my age to not show their support. Anybody wearing a Rams shirt was reminded about how much they suck.

Now for the first time in my life, there is great hope for the Rams. Thanks to Robert Griffin III and to that crazy Dan Snyder, the Rams have 5 first round picks in the next three years. Finally, the Rams can turn this around and start winning consistently for the first time in my life.

Loyal Rams fans of every generation, not just mine, deserve as much.
