The St. Louis Rams will interview another candidate for their GM vacancy this week. The latest candidate on the list is another NFC West front office man, 49ers director of player personnel Tom Gamble. According to Jim Thomas, Gamble will interview on Tuesday.
Fisher knows Gamble from his pre-Titans days, as difficult as it is to imagine that Fisher did anything else before he coached the Titans. Gamble worked on the Eagles' personnel side while Fisher was a coach there from 1988-1990.
This was Gamble's first season in his current job with the 49ers. Prior to that, he was their director of pro personnel. A profile of Gamble from the Philadelphia Inquirer last month, prior to the 49ers loss in the NFC Championship, noted his reputation as a personnel man, an eye for talent. He's credited with bringing in former Eagles kicker David Akers.
Gamble is the latest name in the mix for the GM job. Fisher has said that he hopes to have the GM and the coaching staff hired by the end of this week, but they are not on a hard and fast deadline to get that done.
