The St. Louis Rams may have found their next running backs coach. According to Jim Thomas of the Post-Dispatch, Rutgers' running backs coach Ben Sirmans could be in line for the job.
So who is Sirmans, besides potentially the second Rutgers coach to join the Rams' coaching staff?
Sirmans' first season with the Scarlet Knights was 2011. The coaching staff there fractured once Greg Schiano was hired away to the NFL. Prior to his gig at Rutgers, Sirmans spent five years in the same position at Boston College. His coaching career has taken him to Maine, Kent State and Michigan State.
Sirmans played at Maine under Kirk Ferentz, now head coach at Iowa. That connection is definitely a plus.
If hired, Sirmans would not be the first coach on the staff brought over from Rutgers. Earlier this month, the Rams hired Frank Cignetti as their quarterbacks coach. Obviously, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer got to know the crew at Rutgers during his time in Jersey.
Last week, the Rams interviewed Stump Mitchell for the job.
