NFL power rankings, Week 13: We are not impressed

Just how much credit does the rest of the world give you for handing the Cardinals a seventh straight loss?

Christian Petersen

The St. Louis Rams turned aside an Arizona Cardinals team to snap a five-game winless streak. It was a much-needed win for a restless fan base. For the team, winning on the road for the first time this season was also an important accomplishment, crossing off a major item on the Rams' to-do list.

Beating the Cardinals only gets a team so much credit in the straight world though. After all, for the Cardinals it was the seventh loss in a row. It didn't translate well to the power rankings.

Here's Joel Thorman at SB Nation who has the Rams at No. 26 in the power rankings this week:

26. St. Louis Rams (LW: 25, 4-6-1): My surprise 2012 playoff team appears dead in the water. Note: don't listen to me next time I have a surprise playoff pick.

The Rams place 23rd in the NFL.com Power Poll this week.

Those are all reasonable placements for the Rams. The Jets are No. 25 in the SB Nation rankings, and remember the Rams made the Jets look like something special the week before this one.

Like I said, beating the Cardinals was great, but it's not the kind of win that's going to put the Rams on the national radar, not that a 4-6-1 team is going to get much spotlight anyway with the playoff race being the main story in the NFL right now ... that and Adderall.
