NFL roster cuts: Rams cut OT Renardo Foster & LB Zac Diles

The St. Louis Rams continued making roster cuts today, after releasing seven players yesterday. Backup OT Renardo Foster was released, according to his agent Kevin Ayrault. Foster is the first of 20 players that will have to be cut by the end of the day today.

His agent said this on Twitter this morning:

Renardo Foster has been released by STL. Renardo was the swing OT for STL last yr. He dominated C. Johnson in his start against CAR last yr

Foster spelled Jason Smith in that game. Agent hyperbole aside, he really did play a solid 60 minutes that week. I thought the Rams would keep him as a backup.

Versatility seems to be the deciding factor here. Adam Goldberg can play tackle (he's arguably better at it than guard) as can Quinn Ojinnaka. Both of those players can also play inside at guard, though you can argue about their effectiveness. Foster's release could signal an opening for Ojinnaka. I still wonder if they won't try to find a bigger backup guard though.

Be sure to follow us on Twitter today for more roster talk.

UPDATE: Zac Diles has been released too. His agent, same as Foster's, had some harsh words for the Rams organization:

Zac Diles has been released by the Rams after never being given a full and fair opportunity to compete. Zac will find work quickly.

I suspect he will find work.
