The St. Louis Rams might be getting help at the cornerback position, according to Jim Thomas as the Post-Dispatch. Thomas reports today that the Rams have waived a couple players, and could be ready to add veteran CB Rod Hood. The move would give the Rams an experienced veteran to replace Ron Bartell, who is on IR with a fractured vertebrae.
Here's Thomas' tweet:
Dropping Ben Guidugli from the practice squad and Jermale Hines from the active roster is most likely a switch. Hines, a fifth-round pick this year, would go to the practice squad. Hines is the only safety on the Rams roster who entered the league via the draft rather than undrafted free agency, so they probably want to try and keep him.
Hood missed last season with a torn ACL. He had three interceptions as a mid-season addition to the Titans in 2009. Hood is a natural for man coverage. The Rams had him in for a physical earlier this season, and hopefully his knee passed muster. God knows they could him.
Josh Gordy and Tim Atchison may have some talent, but the Rams need veteran help at the position, just in case you forgot what's happened without Bartell.
Also working out for the Rams today: cornerbacks Michael Holmes, Bryan McCann and Jeremy Ware. Wide receivers Chris Brooks and Adam Mims also worked out today.
