Despite the mumbling and grumbling, the St. Louis Rams Monday night loss to the Giants and their B-movie acting skills wasn't all bad. There were a few things that really stood out as positives. I'm a day late on this, but as I firm believer in better late than never, I am pleased to present the game ball.
This week's winner: middle linebacker James Laurinaitis
Laurinaitis had 14 tackles in the game, nine solo and five assists, including one tackle for a loss. He was all over the field Monday night. More than the stats, his leadership and commitment form the heart and soul of the Rams' defense.
It's hard to believe this is just his third year. I expect it to be the one where he becomes a household name too. The Rams have improved at outside linebacker and gotten stouter in front of him. They limited the Giants to 3.1 yards per carry on a 38 rushing attempts. As the team progresses this season, look for even more from Laurinaitis.
