(Update by 3k at 5:45ET - the watchlist is done with the relevant prospects from Florida St.-Oklahoma)
Some decent action from the morning slate. West Virginia-Maryland was a solid offensive contest; Geno Smith really ran a controlled offense for the Mountaineers and looked the part of a system QB that could be effective at the NFL level. If he isn't absolutely overwhelmed by LSU next weekend, he'll have a good chance at a late round pick should he declare (which he shouldn't). I would be remiss if I didn't at least give a nod to Van's alma mater Wyoming for holding on to a win over Bowling Green. Good luck next week with Nebraska.
I didn't catch any of the Penn St.-Temple game, as I flipped between Maryland-WVU and Clemson-Auburn. If you caught the game, feel free to leave any observations here. A couple of good games either underway or about to be: Washington-Nebraska, Michigan St.-Notre Dame, Texas-UCLA, Virginia-UNC and of course Tennesee-Florida.
The UW-Nebraska has plenty of pro talent. If you haven't heard of Washington RB Chris Polk, you need to give him a look. He's got a shot at an early round selection. And as Van noted yesterday, the Rams have scouts at the game. Might as well follow the team's intentions up to Lincoln to see who sticks out.
If you're looking for a sleeper #1 WR, Dwight Jones is quietly emerging as a serious candidate to jump up into the second tier of WRs with Jeff Fuller and Ryan Broyles. Jones follows numerous recent Tar Heel WRs who have gone on to the NFL, including current New York Giant Hakeem Nicks.
And from Tennessee-Florida, there are plenty of playmakers for the Gators who could find a home in the NFL. For Tennessee, it's a QB-WR combo that is making noise in scouting circles. QB Tyler Bray has a great delivery, but my goodness is he stick skinny. Might have to send him a tub of gumbo and thicken him up.
Keep it here during the second set of games, and let us know what you see. I'll have one more thread up for the night games later on.
Holler.
