The St. Louis Rams released running back Chauncey Washington yesterday. After adding two free agent running backs in Cadillac Williams and Jerious Norwood, the move should not come a big surprise. Washington was added to the roster last September. He saw just a sliver of time on special teams, one game.
Keith Toston has to be considered a long shot for the final roster at this point as well. However, given the injury history of the Rams veteran running backs, Toston is probably safe until one of the later rounds of cuts...and the front office ought to have his name on speed dial just in case.
Another bit of free agent news. Former Patriots and Falcons guard/tackle Quinn Ojinnaka will visit Rams Park. An Atlanta draft pick in 2006 - yes, when Devaney was with that team - Ojinnaka was traded to the Patriots prior to the 2010 season. He ended up starting five games at guard for Bill Belichick last year. So, what kind of player is Ojinnaka?
Well, he plays both guard and tackle. As far as his skill set, think pass blocking. Atlanta drafted him when Jim More coached the team and had a line focused on zone blocking. Ojinnaka graded out poorly as a run blocker but did fine in pass protection, according to Pro Football Focus.
Plays guard and tackle...better pass blocker than run blocker...who does that sound like? Ding, ding, ding! Adam Goldberg. The team stated a desire to try and re-sign Goldberg, a versatile backup who can play four of five positions along the offensive line. New of Ojinnaka coming in for a visit makes me wonder if either Goldberg's price is to high or he has a better offer somewhere else.
