Now that Barry Cofield signed with the Redskins the question is now what the hell are the Rams going to do at DT. The Rams were interested in Barry until the Redskins jacked up the price sky high. General thoughts are that they need an upgrade, but the market at DT is thin this year.
First off we will likely resign Gibson. He is a solid guy who played well last year. I still don't like him as a starter because he is undersized, but he is a good guy to keep around the rotation as he is an all effort type.
Some have been saying that we might go after Brandon Mebane now, but reports I'm reading are saying as long as the Seahawks make a competitive offer he will resign with Seattle. We could always offer a better offer than the Seahawks, but it's not in the Rams history to overpay for free agents, even though you could argue we overpaid for Mikell.
There are some other guys on the market to look at such as Mike Patterson, Remi Ayodele and Tommie Harris. I still thinking that the Rams might just be content with the situation at DT. We didn't draft a DT in this year's draft despite some good ones being available, which might explain why we might not go after a DT in free agency.
If the price isn't too high on Mebane I expect the Rams to give him a call, and there's still an outside chance we get a guy like him. I thinking we might sign a guy like the three mentioned above or just keep what we have. I hoping that if we don't upgrade DT with as good of a guy as us fans wanted that the money will be spent on other positions of need, like RB, OLB and G. It will continue to be a interesting week.
