Days away from when he walks out from behind bars, more talk about the possibility of former Giants WR Plaxico Burress joining the St. Louis Rams has surfaced. The Rams are one of several teams, according to Burress' friend Brandon Jacobs, where Plaxico is likely to end up once the NFL resolves this lockout matter and free agency begins anew. Philadelphia, however, is the most likely destination, per Jacobs.
So the first question I had when I read this was where the interest is in Burress. Is it the Rams that are interested, or is Burress more interested in the Rams? It's hard to tell.
According to Bucky Brooks at NFL.com, Burress told Jacobs that St. Louis is one of places he would like to play, playing under the Giants old defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who was still in NY when Plax went up the river. Plaxico being interested in the Rams is a lot different than the Rams being interested in Plaxico. Adam Schefter makes it sound as though the Rams have some interest in Plaxico.
Either way, Jacobs believes pretty strongly that Philadelphia is where his friend will end up once the lockout ends.
I know this isn't the first time we've talked about Plaixco Burress, and I just keep coming back to the question: why? Does he really add anything to the Rams at this point? He hasn't been on the field for a long time, and will likely take some time to get back up to speed. I don't the comparisons with Michael Vick are most accurate, since Vick's a QB, but it's hard to imagine Burress making a significant impact in 2011.
