Fendi Onobun learning the St. Louis Rams playbook with an eye on securing a roster spot

Tight end Fendi Onobun's future with the St. Louis Rams is a little murky in the wake of the team's second-round surprise pick of Wisconsin TE Lance Kendrick. Neither roster uncertainty or labor uncertainty is keeping Onobun from putting in his time during the offseason this year though.

Onobun revealed via Twitter today that he has met with Sam Bradford during the offseason. He also noted that he's learning the playbook and "getting better" with the "new material."

Bradford, Onobun and several other Rams receivers worked in Houston earlier this spring in a round of informal lockout workouts. While some are questioning the actual value of those informal, player-led workouts, Onobun (and the Rams receivers) need every advantage they can get for the competition they'll face when/if training camp starts.

Can Onobun secure his place on the roster? It seems like a tough climb. As a second-round pick Lance Kendricks has one. I would think that Michael Hoomanawanui does to, since he's the other half of Josh McDaniels' two-TE plan borrowed from his old boss. Both Uh Oh and Kendricks bring versatility as blockers too. That leaves one or two more spots where for Billy Bajema, Daniel Fells, Onobun and Derek Schouman

Onobun reports that he's also been working on his blocking ability during the offseason.
