2012 NFL mock draft: What does the clairvoyant one say about the St. Louis Rams?

Earlier this afternoon, I shared a spooky mock draft that predicted the St. Louis Rams picking North Carolina DE Robert Quinn...a mock draft published a year ago. Since we seemed to have found the clairvoyant mock drafter from last year, I thought it might be worth taking a look at who he has the Rams picking in his 2012 NFL mock draft.

Carnac the Mocker was none other than Andrew Perloff at SI.com. In his 2012 NFL mock draft, published last week, he had the Rams sticking with defense. They even went back to a program where they've had success with another first round pick recently. Picking at #24, he has the Rams drafting:

Travis Lewis, LB, Oklahoma

Here's his take on the pick:

Teams want to wait to draft 4-3 linebackers, but Lewis will be productive enough this season to overcome that handicap. The Rams could also look at North Carolina LB Zach Brown.

I have my doubts about the Rams going with a linebacker in the first round. Of course, Lewis looks like a guy who could prove to be the exception to the rule. Paired with Laurinaitis, the Rams would have a devastating group of linebackers, playing behind a lethal pass rush.

It's a reminder that the Rams are potentially not far away from having a really elite defense, the kind that can dominate opponents. But they aren't there yet.

Speaking of 2012 mock drafts...3k drops his this afternoon. It's a humdinger too.
