St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford is leading unofficial offseason workouts with some of the Rams receivers in Houston as I type this. Joining Bradford is Donnie Avery, recovering from knee surgery, TE Fendi Onobun and others. These unofficial workouts are taking the place of strength and conditioning programs that would be happening at team facilities were it not for the lockout.
Bradford, Avery et al are practicing at the University of Houston, Avery's alma mater. Danario Alexander and Mark Clayton are also practicing with Bradford and Avery, and probably a few more that we don't know of directly. The report at Fox Sports mentions that some of the guys aren't from Texas...or Oklahoma, which is basically the same thing, weather-wise. Brandon Gibson, Laurent Robinson and Mardy Gilyard. Of course, Robinson and Gilyard are from Florida so it's not like heat should be a new thing, but Houston is it's own special kind of hell in the warm weather months.
For guys like Onobun and Gilyard who are on the roster bubble, getting some time to practice with Sam Bradford gives them a little bit of an advantage if and when camp starts. I'm sure the Rams have a way of keeping unofficial tabs on how players look in practice. That will be handy information if and when the lockout gets resolved.
