TST Community Mock: Round 1, Pick 25

With the 25th pick in the 2011 TST Community Mock Draft, the Seattle Seahawks, represented by Sergey606, select:

Ryan Mallet, QB, Arkansas

Sergey gives us his reasoning behind the pick:

Even though I believe that Locker will still be on the board and will go to the Seahawks, they will select Mallett in the first round. I did some browsing on fieldgulls.com and the majority of people think Locker will be taken; however, since he's gone, they're getting Mallett.

As I’ve written before, when/if Seattle re-signs Matt Hasselbeck, he will help groom Mallett into a decent starter in the NFL. If Hasselbeck isn’t back, Mallett is more ready to be a starter in the NFL than Locker is. And Whitehurst could start a couple games early on to at least help Mallett ease into the big leagues.

Mallett has a great arm, no doubt about that, he has good ability to throw accurately down the field, he can run a pro-style offense, he’s good at doing drugs and he got a 26 on the Wonderlic test (average QB score is 24, so he might be ….average, then again Alex Smith got a 40, so I don't buy it).

Anyway, there you have it, the man who will (hopefully) drive the Seahawks into the ground, Ryan Mallett.

I like Mallet. I think he's a dark horse this year, somewhat like Colt McCoy was last year. I think his drug problems are probably overrated, but a coach like Pete Carroll, who has experience at USC and resurrected Mike Williams career last year could help Mallet mature. Not to mention the fact that Hasselbeck used to be a moron, so they can bond that way too.

Or of course, he could be the next Ryan Leaf.

Tevin (T.Ram) is now on the clock, representing the Ravens!
