With the 24th pick in the TST Community Mock Draft, the Saints, represented by Midasknight, select:
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
Midasknight on the pick:
In 2010, the Saints had the 28th ranked rushing game in the NFL. They were a very one dimensional offense, and while having Drew Brees as your QB makes it seem somewhat intentional, I can assure you it is not. They ultimately had an undrafted FA (Ivory) starting for them due to many injuries in the backfield and even he eventually got hurt. What they need is a solid, productive, reliable starting RB to balance their offense. Brees had a career high 22 INT’s in 2010. That’s twice as many as his previous average during his starting years. He pressed too much because they needed him to be Superman. Mark Ingram provides the Saints with the big-time RB they need to remain a SuperBowl caliber offense for the next several years while the rest of the offensive players are in their primes.
The other option for the Saints was Ryan Kerrigan, but I just don’t think DE is as pressing a need for them as RB … and there won’t be a top RB available when they pick again in the 2nd round.
Interesting...very interesting...The Saints last year battled with injuries, which I am sure is a part of the stat about having a very low rushing game. With this pick, the Saints would get even MORE crowded in the backfield (Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Chris Ivory, even Julius Jones). Adding Ingram into that group would tie up an enormous amount of resources for that one pick. Of course, Bush might be on his way out since the Saints probably won't want to pay a FA contract to keep him, even if it is second tier. Julius Jones wasn't anything more than a injury fill in, and given the fact that the Saints like to spread the ball...this pick could work. Interesting pick by Midasknight.
