The ink is just now drying up on the NFL Combine. Teams have gone home to adjust their draft board and scouts are off to flash their business at cops in new cities as college Pro Day events kick off today. The Pro Day events can
The week before the Combine, I posted a Pro Day schedule, and will post it again below the jump. For now, I want to point out two pro days happening this week that will feature players who could be of interest to the St. Louis Rams.
3/3 Baylor University
The party starts in Waco, TX today, and a former firefighter who was too big too be a hockey player gets top billing. Danny Watkins is widely considered the second best interior lineman in the draft. The only criticism probably keeping him from being on top is that he turns 27 when the season starts. Asked whether or not his age was a concern at the Combine, he said, "well, I don't have arthritis." He'd be a great fit in any locker room not to mention on the inside of an offensive line.
3/4 Troy
Jerrel Jernigan will be the main attraction at Troy's Pro Day tomorrow. He told everyone in his media avail at the Combine last week that he was going to run a forty in the "low 4.3s." He ran a 4.47, unofficial. No doubt he'll be looking to better that number tomorrow, but teams can always look at the tape to get a sense of just how fast Jernigan is, and more importantly just how fast he plays. On the surface, Jerigan and Donnie Avery would be a little redundant for the Rams, but there are questions about Avery's health and whether or not he still has his speed after knee surgery last year. He has played slot and outside, most see him in the slot.
Jernigan also has lots of experience returning kicks.
"I enjoy it a lot. I just love the ball in my hand."
A former QB, Jernigan could also provides some value in the Wildcat package.
