Mel Kiper shocked St. Louis Rams fans with his mock draft yesterday by picking Illinois DT Corey Liuget for the Rams at #14. Most mocks still have the Rams taking Alabama WR Julio Jones, who was off the board at that point in Kiper's mock draft. It wasn't the first time that a mock draft has given the Rams a defensive lineman this year. A mock from SBNation gave the Rams Oregon State DT Stephen Paea, and the last one had the Rams drafting Purdue DE Ryan Kerrigan.
Those of you wondering about the relative merits of Paea and Liuget are in luck because Doug Farrar at Football Outsiders has a post out today reviewing the two prospects. It even includes a little download on each from Rob Rang, another TST draftnik favorite. Will over at Rams Herd has a post recounting a conversation with Farrar as to which DT might be a better fit for the Rams. In short, Liuget's the better three technique, but Paea might be a better fit for the Rams as a replacement for Fred Robbins. Paea, like Robbins, can play directly over the center.
Let the debate...continue.
