The NFL has fined Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor $40,000 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on St. Louis Rams tight end Lance Kendricks. ESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed the news from the NFL today, after Pro Football Talk reported it earlier this week. Kendricks suffered a mild concussion as a result of the hit.
Kendricks was limited in practice on Wednesday, but he did not appear on the injury report today. After putting Michael Hoomanawanui on injured reserve, the Rams are short on tight ends.
The NFL has cracked down on these kinds of hits as part of an effort to reduce concussions, and for good reason. The Rams have had several players dealing with concussion at various times this season, most significantly right tackle Jason Smith, who may be shut down for the season, unable to get over his concussion.
Watching the hit, I am more than a little surprised Chancellor did not suffer a concussion either.
