The St. Louis Rams will put wide receiver Danny Amendola on the injured reserve list, ending his season. That news comes as no surprise. Amendola needs surgery to repair a torn triceps, and it will require four months of recovery time.
In the department of cruel irony, he might have been able to return in January. The Rams have a game on January 1 against the San Francisco 49ers, but that date should end their season.
Injuries have decimated the St. Louis Rams this season. Steven Jackson left after two plays in the first game, but he at least was able to return to full strength last week. Cornerbacks have been hit the hardest. Second-year CB Jerome Murphy, a third-round pick in 2010, was expected to play a key role this year, until he fractured his ankle in preseason practice. Ron Bartell fractured a vertebrae in the same devastating week one game where Amendola got hurt, and Bradley Fletcher, the Rams other starting corner, tore his ACL, for the second time in his NFL career, in practice yesterday.
At least the Rams have some hope at receiver, with Mark Clayton set to return after week six. If the other receivers and tight ends could start hanging onto the ball, they could get by for the rest of the season.
