Saints RB Mark Ingram Out; Darren Sproles, Pierre Thomas Running For Saints Instead

New, comments

The New Orleans Saints will be without rookie running back Mark Ingram this week against the St. Louis Rams. Without Ingram, they will rely on Pierre Thomas and Darren Sproles to do the bulk of the work on the ground against the league's worst run defense. From a fantasy football perspective, both Sproles and Thomas are good plays this week, though hardly "sleepers" against this defense.

Ingram, a first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, leads all rookies with 329 rushing yards on 85 carries. He also has three touchdowns, with is the tops among rooking running backs, but far from Cam Newton's rookie mark of seven rushing touchdowns.

The St. Louis Rams had Mark Ingram in the mix for their first-round pick this year, at 14th overall. The opted for Robert Quinn when he unexpectedly fell to them with that pick.

Sproles is second on the team with 289 yards on 39 carries. The Rams defense will likely have their hands full with Sproles' speed and movement; he's averaging an 7.9 yards per carry.
