St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Jason Smith suffered what looks to be a nasty head injury in the first quarter of the Rams’ game against the Dallas Cowboys. Smith hit his head on a Dallas defensive back as he dove for a Cadillac Williams fumble on first-and-ten. Here is the video of Smith’s injury:
Smith was tended to on the field. The training staff was even forced to remove his face mask as they dealt with the injury. A very solemn look overcame his teammates as they watched the trainers tend to Smith on the field. The Fox announcers were even startled at the seriousness of the injury.
Smith was taken off the field on a stretcher. He did manage to wave his hands at the crowd as he was being carted off the field, a positive sign. He will not return to the game, and his status for the rest of the season is yet to be determined.
Smith has been sent to a local hospital to find out more.
