2011 Senior Bowl: Early surprises from weigh-in

Prospect lined up in their underwear and paraded in front of scouts and draftniks at this morning's weigh-in for the 2011 Senior Bowl in Mobile, AL. As far as players who could be in the picture for the St. Louis Rams in the 2011 NFL Draft, there weren't many surprises, but a few players mentioned here and elsewhere recently did garner a few comments from draft experts.

I mentioned South Alabama WR Courtney Smith earlier today. Rob Rang from NFL Draft Scout saw Smith at the weigh-in and came away impressed. Here's Rang:

Two relatively "small school" receivers showed off a couple of the most impressive physiques, instantly providing some evidence that they deserve to be in this contest. South Alabama's Courtney Smith (6040, 220) and San Diego State's Vincent Brown (5110, 184) sported chiseled frames. In all-star games such as this one, the first step towards making a jump up draft boards is by making a first impression; Smith and Brown certainly helped their cause by doing precisely that.

Rang also goes on to hype Cal DE Cameron Jordan. He measured 6'4" 287 lbs today with 11 1/4" hands and 34.5" arms, and Rang reiterates his belief that he can play inside or outside in either a 4-3 or 3-4 front.

Quick note on a couple of Miami players we've mentioned before. WR Leonard Hankerson measured just 6'1" 205 lbs and his teammate DT Allen Bailey measured 6'3" 278 lbs. Pundits were pleased with how Bailey looked, but reaction was more mixed about Hankerson's height. Complete weigh-in results can be found here

Practice is underway now.
