It's a shakeup...to the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft. Ohio State DE Cameron Heyward had elbow surgery this week, and it could prevent him working out for some time, including the NFL Scouting Combine in February.
He was set to play in the Senior Bowl next week, but that's definitely out now.
Tony Pauline from SI.com and TFYDraft.com is citing sources that say Heyward could be out for three months, which would definitely deal his draft stock a serious blow. The most recent mock draft at Mocking the Draft had Heyward going ninth overall to the Cowboys, others have him as a late first round pick. In short, he's one of those guys who could have given his draft stock a nice boost in the pre-draft workouts.
As far as the St. Louis Rams go, Heyward probably wasn't a fit since he seems to best fit as a 3-4 defensive end, but there are some who think he could be a 3-technique guy. Based on what I saw in the Sugar Bowl, he's a damn good player and probably would be fine in a 4-3 defense.
