Steven Jackson out for Rams scrimmage

When the St. Louis Rams take the field for an intra-squad scrimmage tonight they'll be without star running back Steven Jackson. Jackson had surgery during the offseason for a herniated disc in his back. However, he's sitting out tonight as part of a plan from the training staff to give him 48 hours of rest after hitting it hard all week in practice. Jackson has been fine through practice this week, reporting no discomfort.

Jackson may be on the sidelines to rest, but a number of other Rams are out with injuries. James Butler seems to be the team's worst case. The starting SS could miss "extended" time with a sprained MCL. The good news here is that Craig Dahl is more than capable of stepping in and filling the role while Butler's out.

Jason Smith will not play tonight either.

There's a long list of players who are nursing minor injuries, and I suspect a number of them won't be scrimmaging tonight. In fact, Spagnuolo may change how the scrimmage works tonight because of all the injuries
