We can talk about rumored trades all day, but for now, we've got a mock draft to run. And here with the #8 pick is AbsolutMoose representing the Oakland Raiders.
I can't think of an Al Davis joke to go here, so let's get right to it. Take it away Moose...
With the eighth pick in the draft, the Oakland Raiders select Gerald McCoy, DT, Oklahoma
Now everyone knows that Al Davis has some sick fetish with freakish combine monsters (see: Russell, JaMarcus), athletes with Olympic speed (see: Heyward-Bey, Darrius), and sexy picks (see: McFadden, Darren) who usually end up as busts or bench filler. With Eric Berry off the board, they go with the next defensive impact player in McCoy. Even though the Raiders have a gaping holes on the offensive line, Ol' Al wants someone to come in and immediately be an impact. McCoy is a player who, arguably, is more pro-ready than Suh, which is what the Crypt Keeper expects out of his players. McCoy who has already been touted as the "poor man's Suh" (which I disagree with), will immediately bolster Oakland's pitiful run defense and greatly improve their passing pressure. It came down to McCoy or Bruce Campell, OT (aka the aforementioned combine monster). I feel the Keeper won't let up an opportunity to take one of the better DT prospects in a long time slip out of his fingers. But come Draft Day, Al Davis is as unpredictable as the weather here in Montana.
VanRam: Anyone who gets McCoy this far down the draft is going to be happy. Nice pick.
