We're nearing the end. As the first round goes along, we'll be taking a look back at our community mock draft. Keep it tuned in to TST tonight.
And here on behalf of the Vikings is NachoD.
With the 30th pick in the draft the Minnesota Vikings select Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers.
I'm drafting taking for granted that Mr. Favre is coming back again for another try. I looked at the Vikings needs and followed the team blogs to see what the fans are clamoring for. The major areas that I felt that needed to be addressed were in the secondary (both cornerback and safety) and at offensive center. The losses of Matt Birk last season and Darren Sharper are still being felt. Cornerback Cedric Griffin's injury during the playoffs that ended his season is a concern for next year and Antoine Winfield is getting up there in years. An injection of young talent at the position is needed. I was hoping Taylor Mays or Earl Thomas would have been there for us but they are off the board. It came down to Maurkice Pouncey to address the center position, McCourty and Kareem Jackson, the corner from Alabama. McCourty is the pick because not only will he excel as a cornerback but his special teams work as a gunner, kick blocker and returner adds definite value.
VanRam: Interesting pick. McCourty is one of those guys making a late run up draft boards. The last half of the first round this year is going to be very interesting with all the talent available.
