Rookie contracts coming soon: Random Ramsdom, 7/14

For the slow time of year, this could be a big week. It looks like we'll have all kinds of contract news to talk about as week ticks by. Here's an update.

The PD has some contract news. Expect 4th round pick DT Darell Scott and 5th round pick WR Brooks Foster to sign a deal shortly, making them the next Rams draft picks to come to terms on a contract, after news of CB Bradley Fletcher broke this weekend, though still unannounced by the team. That's according to Rams VP of Football Operations and contract man Kevin Demoff.

The article also goes to quote Demoff's assured predcition that both of the Rams top two picks in the draft, OT Jason Smith and LB James Laurinaitis, will be signed and ready to go when camp starts. The Rams haven't had a draft pick hold out since CB Tye Hill in 2006, a move that obviously paid big dividends on the field for Hill.

As for the other big Rams player contract news, Demoff thinks that the team can get something worked out with FS Oshiomogho Atogwe by tomorrow's franchise tender deadline. If they don't hammer out a long-term deal, they'll still work on it, but Atogwe can't sign until after the season is over. Demoff believes that Atogwe will sign his franchise tender if they don't get a deal done.

Pro Football Weekly has their NFC West training camp preview up.

The Raiders released their sixth-round pick Mizzou DE Stryker Sulak. He'll hit the waiver wire, where the Lions and Rams will have first dibbs at him.
