Here's JimHacking with the pick.
With the #17 pick in the TST Community Mock Draft, the New York Jets select Mark Sanchez - QB - USC.
With the 17th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select QB Mark Sanchez of USC. With the (re)retirement of #4, the Jets are ecstatic to have Sanchez drop in their lap. They believe he will be their QB of the future and will battle right away for the starting position. Although Rex Ryan is a defensive guy, he likes Sanchez’s moxy and tools. Ryan also realizes that the current QB contingent of Kellen Clemens, Erik Ainge and Brett Ratliff are probably not going to get it done for the Jets.
Say what you want about Kellen Clemens, but the Jets prefered the ghost of Brett Favre over the one-time Oregon standout. The Jets could also use a WR, but with both Maclin and Crabtree off the board, there's nobody worth spending the #17 pick on. Besides, this is a great value for the Jets' draft slot...in fact, the hype machine around Sanchez is really gearing up vaulting him to top 10 consideration now.
Draft adjustment: Denver is picking next, at #18, after the Cutler trade, and for the sake of time I'll ask 91GREENE to still represent that spot in the draft. If you can't or don't want to, let me know.
Same goes for the #28 pick, which now belongs to Buffalo after trading Jason Peters to Philly.
On the clock: Denver, represented by 91GREENE.
