Here's some interesting news about the Rams cap situation. Yesterday, the PD's Rams beat writer Jim Thomas was a guest on 1380 AM's The Bernie Miklasz Show, and told Miklasz that the Rams may try and restructure a deal with TE Randy McMichael who has a cap value of $4.4 million this season. Here's a link to the audio archive from the show.
I wonder if that will entail extending McMichael's contract? It would almost have to, in order to get the TE to agree to it. McMichael will be 30 in June, so he should have some tread left on his tires. McM figures to be an important part of the Rams offense under new OC Pat Shurmur. He was sorely missed last season.
McMichael's got to be a little frustrated with his time in St. Louis. Since coming over he's been part of an offense struggling to make things, anything, happen. In his last three seasons with Miami, he had 60 or more catches and 580 yards or more every year. In 2007, his first with the Rams, he had 39 catches for 429 yards and 3 TDs. Last season he had just 11 grabs in four games before being placed on IR with a broken tibia and a torn ligament in his leg.
