- The Crabtree saga knows no end. First came the jaw-dropper that the barely-annoying foot injury required surgery. Strangest part of this? He hasn't felt any pain in the foot. I guess that lack of pain is what drove the report that Crabtree still plans to run an official, timed 40 at his March 26 pro-day workout in Dallas. Fair to say that his chances at being drafted #2 are pretty much gone. Especially since he's shrinking...
- And then there's Andre Smith. Was it because he wasn't dressed well? Was it because of his weight? Because 380 lbs. is fat, but 345 is oh so skinny. A-Smith is out of the running at #2 as well, it would seem.
- Eugene Monroe and Jason Smith had very good workouts this weekend. If I had to give the nod to one of them, it would be J-Smith, though not by much. I think the biggest factor driving the Rams' decision for the #2 pick is the future of Orlando Pace. If he isn't in the blue & gold next season, it's either J-Smith or Monroe at #2. I also would push Jamon Meredith and Phil Loadholt up a bit based on their performances. SI said as much, but they also put Lydon Murtha (OT, Nebraska) in the 'riser' group and I thought that for a 6'7" 300-pounder, he looked weak.
- Jared Cook (TE, South Carolina) definitely saw his stock rise. Against the other TEs, he ran the best 40 and posted the best vertical and broad jumps. Some serious athleticism at the TE position up for grabs in Cook's 6'5" frame.
- Darrius Heyward-Bey came with it this morning. A combine-best 4.3 40-time to go with respectable finishes in every other workout definitely helped his stock. In my last mock, I had him going 26th to Baltimore. I'm 90% sure he'll be gone in the top 20 now. Especially since Hakeem Nicks pulled up lame this morning and didn't participate. I can't find any reports to back that up, but I saw him pull up during position drills and I can't find any results for him in any category.
- Ian Johnson (RB, Boise St.) ran some solid drills this weekend. I can't say too much for anyone else because this looks to be an incredibly weak draft for RBs. Questions, mocking retorts and general jabs at my manhood should be included in the comments.
