Running for a thousand

How about a quick update on Steven Jackson's quest for a fourth 1,000 yard season? I know this doesn't exactly fit with the sour feelings still lingering like a hangover from yesterday's ugly loss, but I'm running out of ways to say these guys stink and I want things fixed.

Jackson picked up 108 yards on 32 carries yesterday, giving him a total of 881 for the season. With one game to play he needs (ready for my mathematical wizardry?) 119 more yards to reach the 1,000 yard plateau for the fourth consecutive season.

The Rams conclude their season with a tilt against the Atlanta Falcons, who allowed 155 yards rushing in their win over the Vikings yesterday - 76 yards apiece for Adrian Peterson and QB Tarvaris Jackson. There's encouragement in Jackson's numbers from yesterday (not to mention the fact that he played through his hurting thigh). On paper, the 49ers have a much tougher run defense than the Falcons. However, the Falcons are a much better team overall which means the Rams may not get the chance to run much as the score gets lopsided. And there's also the question of whether or not Haslett will be using it as one last evaluation for guys like Kenneth Darby, which would cut into Jackson's carries.

Don't expect the Falcons to rest their starters either (at least early on). They still have a shot to move from the 5th seed to the 2nd in the NFC.
