Friends, the Eddie Kennison era (part 2) in St. Louis has ended.
First reported today by Post-Dispatch beat reporter Jim Thomas in his online chat, the Rams cut Kennison and promoted DB Eric Bassey to replace injured Todd Johnson. Thomas on Bassey and S David Roach, who was added to the practice squad:
Bassey (6-1, 209) runs well, and was on the active roster for eight games last season. During that time, he proved to be one of the team's better special teams players with 12 tackles.
The Rams also have added safety David Roach to their practice squad. Roach 6-2, 215, was a two-year starter at TCU. He was in New Orleans' training camp as a rookie free agent this past summer; the Rams had a fourth-round grade on him entering the draft.
I'd still like to see LB Chris Chamberlain get a shot at safety given what we saw of his coverage ability in camp. Chamberlain has 6 tackles on the season, playing well on special teams.
