TST Mock Draft - Round Two

The TST mock draft continues with Round Two.

Pick-wise, the Rams have the first pick of the second round, since New England forfeited a first round pick thanks to the whole video taping thing. So, with an early pick in the round the Rams have a chance to get some high-level talent that fills one of the key needs going into the 2008 season. Roughly, those needs encompass a DE, OL, WR, CB, LB, and DT. The degree of need at each position is subject to interpretation, to say the least. Based on our community vote and discussion for round one, let's assume for the sake of argument the Rams take a DE (Gholston or Chris Long) with their first pick. Without much doubt though, that pick fills a big need for the Rams, bolstering their defensive front.

So which need do they try and fill in the second round? Supposedly, this isn't a great draft for top-flight receivers, but since the Rams have Holt and Bennett could they find a talent who can develop without much pressure under the tutelage of those two and Al Saunders, someone fast enough to stretch the field and tough enough to play in the slot? It's a great draft for offensive tackles. Can we find the future LT with this pick? We've talked lots about OTs and WRs in the second round, but adding a CB or SS is a definite need and a key ingredient toward making the defense respectable this season.

Anyway, this pick is a little more exciting since it's way more wide open than the first round, where there are basically four or five players worth considering with the second overall pick. It also means there's a little research involved. Because of that, here are some helpful links that even the most draft-phobic football can will enjoy.

NFL Draft Scout: I like this site, because it ranks players at each position and gives the appropriate round where the player is worthy of being selected.

This Mock draft data base gives you a rundown of all the draft sites...for the Redskins. But, you can use it to easily find mock drafts with more than one round.

Here's the NFL.com player profiles for players in the draft this year.

Round Two at WalterFootball.com.

DraftTek has all seven rounds projected.

We'll leave the thread/polls open through midweek, depending on response, and then tally it up. That ought to give us a fair picture of what round two might shape up to be for the Rams. Have a good weekend.

Both of my hopefulls
Could easily be picked in the 1st round but if either falls to the Rams, I pray to God they take them.

Quentin Groves, OLB, Auburn - Doesn't fill an immediate need unless injury, but most things I've read about Groves are signs that he could be the steal of the draft.  Has had some attitude problems but nothing too crazy.

Sam Baker, OT, USC - Stock has dropped some since the beginning of the year. But I believe that was due to him playing with a hamstring injury for most of the year.  This is the kind of guy I want playing next to Incognito.  He's one of those lead by example kind of players.  When healthy, he was one of the top OT's in college.

I said trade down in the 1st.
hmmm. So we got a cb in the trade and a 1st round at 6-15. hmmmm. I guess we took Gholtson, or Ellis, or Harvey, or Rivers in the 1st. We also got another 2nd round draft pick.

So we take a (nother) DE or LB or CB or S at 33, then the best available OT/OG at the 2nd 2nd round pick.

I am still under the delusion that Conner (2nd round) will become a monster MLB and along with Pisa and Will we will have the most dominating LB's in the League. I admit it is a reach.

So I choose Conner at 33. 50/50 or less he will be there.

The further we trade down
The more money we have to sign our FA's comming up after 2008/9. Maybe we should trade down to 17 or 18.

Any news on Atogwe or Chillar, guys?
I'm am thinking of calling their house myself. How hard can it be for a press guy to ask "Hey, how are you doing?, whats-up?". Gee whiz, this is frustrating.

For 3-4 people.
May go as late as round 3 (maybe, i doubt it). With him we could possibly go 3-4.

Ahtyba Rubin, DT, Iowa State. NT postition.

Beast.

CB
To me we really need to bolster that CB slot. Don't know what's going to happen with Fakhir Brown, and I just dont' feel comfortable with the other set of guys we got.

So I say we take Aqib Talib, CB out of Kansas.
Has some height at 6'1 to go with his speed

Talib
If Talib is there then we definitely have to take him, but from everything I have read he will be gone by the time that we get our second round pick.

I would love to get Groves or Baker. Some, albeit few, mock drafts have seen Malcolm Kelly fall into our second round pick- I would love to pick him up. Also, Kenny Phillips, SS from Miami, has fallen to the second round in some drafts; that would be absolutely amazing in the transformation of our defense.  If not Kelly, maybe go with the Mizzou product, Franklin in the 3rd.

Why is there a Mark McGwire highway and no Larry Marmie highway?

Talib
I don't think he will be available in 2nd round but you never know. With so many good cb's, ot's, de's, and dt's available, who knows?

However, a recent mock draft had the Troy cb going 7, Jenkins 8, and Talib 10 to the Saints.

Maybe we take him after the trade-down!

if talib is gone...
Then how about Tracy Porter, the CB out of Indiana.

I have
Groves OLB, Baker OT, or Doucet WR.

by jroman on Mar 17, 2008 8:13 AM CDT reply actions

SS Kenny Phillips
would be my first choice.
Second,  Groves OLB
Third,     Cason  CB

Aqib Talib will be gone by the first 15 picks.

LSU WRs
After Eddie the Eagle, I am always hesitant about taking an LSU WR. I would prefer Manningham to Doucet.

Round Two
Antoine Cason, CB Arizona
Shut down corner with great skills makes for a big boost to a secondary that could possibly be without Brown.
