Don't Bank on Tank

The Bears put Tank Johnson on waivers today, fresh off his DUI arrest outside of Phoenix this weekend. Already suspended for the first eight games of the season, there's no indication yet as to whether this latest little guffaw will cost him even more of the season.

Right now at least 29 team messages boards are atwitter with "sign Tank" posts. There's already one guy ready to bring in Pacman.

It actually makes a little sense for the Rams, in need of a veteran DT and said to be looking for one. This ain't happening though. The Linehan Rams don't like to take chances with troubled players, especially one that's just been waived in the wake of a relapse offense - although he didn't have guns on him this time. The Leonard Little thing that we all remember and all the alcohol trouble with the Cardinals this season makes this issue just a little too immediate for the fanbase. Besides, can you imagine the public crucifixion if a Tank signing didn't pan out in the standings or if he runs afoul of the law again or both?

Teams will have their eye on Tank, but I'd be surprised if anyone made a move before he had time to go through a very public apology and a few months of avoiding parole violations. There's no need to hurry, he's going nowhere for awhile, at least anywhere outside the normal range for an ankle monitor.

i agree with you, van
no one should even think about touching tank until he stays out of trouble for a few months and his suspension is over.

Never
First of all, the guy will NEVER change.  That's him.  Take it or leave it.

Secondly, there's nothing that says the Commisioner won't extend his suspension to the entire season.  Never said he wouldn't and the whole 8 games being reduced to 6 was based on good behavior.  I'd say being arrested for speeding and dui (if convicted) at 3 AM (hmmm, wonder what kinds of places stay open that late?) two weeks after promising the Commish he was a changed man AND was going to be the NFL's Man of the Year, falls waaayyy outside the boundaries of good behavior.

I'm betting on a year suspension.

Anyway, so here you have a thug who cares only about himself and has absolutely no idea of whats right and wrong AND hangs out with violent felons (who usually live in his basement with his fiance, children, automatic weapons....oh, and the under-nourished Pit Bulls in the back yard).  Do you trust him to be/stay in shape for a year while not getting paid AND not being part of a team?

Nah.

The guy's toast.  Dun.  See ya.

You made your bed.  Now sleep in it.  Then again, he might not be able to afford those two houses anymore (Phoenix and Chicago).  Wonder if Vick's got any vacancies?

I'm pretty sure he could use an experinced Pit Bull handler to watch his dogs and Tank definately fits the bill.

yeah
the NFL really needs to get a handle on this stuff, or else it'll start hurting in the bottom line

If it were me
I know for a fact that if you handed me fame and fortune basically overnight there is a very high chance that I would act a damn fool here and there. With that said, the second that fame and fortune was threatened from the commissioner, police, or whoever I'm pretty sure you would see me walking a very straight line. Either I don't keep it "real" like these guys or I/the general public have so much more sense than these guys, I just don't get it. I'm just glad the Rams seem to play it pretty safe off of the field (also, that Goodell wasn't around when Little was up to no good)

im glad
no one here is even entertaining the idea of picking up pac-man...he's even more of a thug than tank is. ironically enough, he's also a better player than tank is. such a shame for someone to throw away all that talent.

i also agree with 636thestruggle
The Rams have enough to worry about on the field, why make it even more difficult for this team to concentrate on winning with such a distraction. Linehan has the right approach to build the team with character guys...let's hope it stays that way.
