St. Louis Rams Trade Second Pick To Washington Redskins: Fan Approval Poll

The St. Louis Rams moved ever so closer to turning around their moribund franchise on Friday night. Roughly two months after hiring Jeff Fisher as their head coach and cleaning out the front office, the Rams swung a deal with the Washington Redskins. They traded their second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft in exchange for Washington's next three first-round picks, including their sixth this year, and their second-round pick this year.

Not a bad haul to move up just four spots in the draft.

So the turnaround begins. In the weeks ahead, fans can discuss and debate the best course of action for the sixth pick, and the Rams should have some interesting options at their disposal, possibly even moving down again in the first round.

For now, savor the moment. This has been a long time coming for the Rams. Hell, sometimes it seems like the Super Bowl win was just a fluke, coincidence more than design. This is not. This is very real, and it puts the team on the road to a dynasty.

There's my hyperbole. Now, let me hear yours. How do you feel about the trade? How do you feel about the direction the team is headed?

2012 NFL Trade Rumors: Rams Get Three First-Round Picks And A Second-Round Pick In 2012 From Washington

The St. Louis Rams needed some positive headlines. Between Gregg Williams' bounty scandal and the ongoing lease negotiations, fans were getting a little edgy for something different. They got that on Friday night when news broke that the Rams had agreed in principal to a big trade with the Washington Redskins for the second overall pick in the draft.

St. Louis received Washington's sixth pick this year and their first-round picks in 2013 and 2014 as well as Washington's second-round pick this year. All that for moving up four spots in the draft.

For the Rams, that's a prime ticket to a bright future. They have two first-round picks in the two drafts after this one. Two chances in 2013 and 2014 to added bona fide starters to their roster ... at cut rate rookie prices. The team was already in good shape with the cap in those year, projecting some $30 million in space.

Jeff Fisher chose the Rams because of their unique position to reshape the franchise, to finally change its direction after years in the wilderness. This is a giant leap forward in that process.

Peyton Manning Rumors: NFC West Bound?

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - MARCH 07: Peyton Manning (L) and Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay attend a press conference announcing that the Colts will release of Manning at Indiana Farm Bureau Football Center on March 7, 2012 in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Photo by Joey Foley/Getty Images)

The Peyton Manning rumors are out of control. The St. Louis Rams appear to be one of the few teams in the league NOT bidding on Manning's services. Of course, the Rams aren't really a suitable match given their track for the future rather than the now. The Manning sweepstakes does impact the Rams in at least a couple ways.

Let's review.

St. Louis Rams Free Agents 2012: Rams Tender Danny Amendola

The St. Louis Rams extended Danny Amendola a second-round tender. What can they expect from him in 2012?

The St. Louis Rams have been quiet so far in regards to their own free agents. That changed this week. According to the PD, the team extended restricted free agent wide receiver Danny Amendola a second-round offer.

The move represents a big pay raise for Amendola, after playing for around the minimum salary since joining the Rams. It also makes 2012 a pivotal year in his career as he gets ready for unrestricted free agency in 2013.

James Laurinaitis talks about Gregg Williams, Jeff Fisher

This morning, FA OLB Brady Poppinga discussed the bounty situation hanging over Rams Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams' head, and even found a way to bring James Laurinaitis into the mix.

Leave it to friend of TST and traditional media superstar Bernie Miklasz to get Laurinaitis on the mic. Not long ago, the Rams' defensive centerpiece joined the Bernie Miklasz show on 101.1 ESPN Radio in St. Louis to discuss just about everything related to the Rams and the NFL.
