You Pick 'Em

You Pick'Em Playoff Challenge: Results

I know a few of you have been waiting for this, and rightfully so. We had over 125 people participate through the four rounds (wildcard, division, championship, Superbowl) and I firstly would like to thank everyone who participated. The people who won played well, but there were certainly quite a few (i.e. around 20 or so) that were right behind them in terms of results. As for the scoring below, each correct pick was worth 1 point, and tiebreakers were only used in the case of a tie (which did happen). The Superbowl choices (most offense, MVP, sacks) also counted for one point. So! Without further ado...

AGAINST THE SPREAD OVERALL CHAMPION: RaptorsHQ- Howland

There isn't much debate about it; Raptor's flat out dominated by picking well every single week. He had the second highest score and was constantly at the top. He had an overall score of 10 points. Hopefully he'll lend his secrets so everyone can make some money.

RUNNER-UP (SPREAD): MountainRanch

MountainRanch was the runner-up for the spread side by virtue of tiebreaker (three way tie with BruinHalo and RamFanMike). He posted 6 points and beat out Bruin Halo by one point during the final tiebreaker (the Superbowl). Talk about close!

3RD (SPREAD): BruinHalo

As mentioned before, Bruin, Mountain and RamFanMike were locked in a three way tie. BruinHalo beat out RamFanMike by virtue of tiebreaker, and took third (barely missing out on second). Congrats!

OUTRIGHT WINNER OVERALL CHAMPION: brandonbirkhead@yahoo.com

It was closer on this end, but Brandon B. had the highest overall score of anyone, spread or not, with 11 points. Not only that, but he nearly picked every single winner correctly (9-2). If I were you Brandon, I'd go get some Lotto tickets.

RUNNER-UP (WINNER): ramsrule

Ramsrule edged out moy by virtue of the tiebreakers. He snagged 9 points and had one of the highest overall scores. Congrats!

3RD (WINNER): moy

In the end, it came down to the tiebreaker scores, as moy also posted 9 points overall. It was so close that I actually had to go back through every single playoff game to compare their scores. Congrats!

Congrats to everyone who won and everyone who played. Enjoy your bragging rights!

You Pick'Em Playoff Challenge: Superbowl Edition

First off, I need to get the results in for the last round (sorry for taking a while on that). For the straight-up winner side, quite a few people (mlkgandhiv2k, steve merritt, statsky, m_t_sac, ram_rod, VTRamsfan, jb22, brandonbirkhead@yahoo.com and thisguy) had all 3 choices right. This round was close for that side of the game. On the other side of things, once again, RaptorsHQ - Howland came up big.

Congrats to everyone for doing well this round. This will be the last week of Pick'Em (obviously) and the winners will be announced next week after the Superbowl.

Here is the final sheet, with some picks that won't be so easy! Good luck!

You Pick'Em Results and Tuesday Evening News, Tebow Style

Before I begin, I'd just like to say that I can tell when people try and cheat the system. At first, it seems remarkable that you can not only guess the picks (you know who you are and just to let you know, you still got the Saints game wrong. They didn't cover the spread) but the correct scores as well, until you realize that the picks were put in on Monday night.

Like I've said before, I know when you submit your picks down to the second. Ain't technology great?

Anyway, moving onto the picks. I'm not going to put them up just yet because the Pro Bowl hasn't happened yet, but I can assure you most of you have at least one correct choice (the Saints-Vikings game was more mixed). A number of you had the score for that game reversed (quite a few actually...too bad!). When the Pro Bowl happens the full results will come up. In the mean time, here is what we have for this round so far: download the excel file here.

As far as news goes, I'm sure everyone (or at least some of us) have been keeping up on the Senior Bowl news. I'd like to highlight the play of someone quite a few people here like. That person is Tim Tebow. I'm not trying to say, "I told you so," (many others have said the same thing as well) but the facts don't lie. He's looked bad. Mocking the draft had this to say about him:

The crux of Tebow's problems are taking snaps from under center and dropping back. At one point, Spencer noted, Tebow fumbled three consecutive snaps in 7-on-7 drills. Tebow can be as nice as he wants, but that is unacceptable for an NFL quarterback.

I'm sure everyone is enthralled with his personality. He's a nice guy and a good leader. But the fact remains is that he is a very raw player. He doesn't have the mechanics or experience under center that an NFL QB must have. This isn't a Mike Vick situation where some people like him and some people don't think he's good enough; this is a situation where a player just isn't ready. For anyone who wants to spend more then a fourth round pick on him, imagine what would happen if he fumbled the ball three consecutive times. People would be clamoring for Kyle Boller. Pandemonium.

Do note, I'm not trying to say he will never be able to play. But with all the talk about value of picks, not drafting for need, etc., it seems silly that people are jumping for a player that simply needs to much work to be a starter right away. The Rams aren't in a position to just sit back and develop a QB and call it good. They need a much more extensive approach of doing things. The Rams may not be close to winning a lot of games, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't try, which is exactly what they would be doing by irresponsibly picking Tebow with a high draft pick. If he falls, go for it. But don't rest your hopes and something that isn't a sure bet. He's a great college player and a nice guy, but after all, the NFL is a business.

Hope you are having a good Tuesday!

TST You Pick'Em: NFL Championship Round

Here we are three weeks later. With the exception of the Jets (and all the Mark Sanchez love they bring to the table) all teams are either the first or second seed. So, without further ado, here is the sheet. Same rules, as always. Good Luck!

Tidbits+ You Pick'Em Divisional Results

The Results are in! But before I get to them, there are a couple things that have been lingering on my mind that I need to get out..

  • The Rams need to sign Mr. Bruce to a one day contract so he can retire a Ram (should he of course choose to do so). Anything less then that should be considered a slap in the face.
  • The Rams need to spread the wealth this draft. With so many needs, they hopefully will go for a best player available approach. Guard? Tight End? OLB? CB? The Rams will hopefully not reach for anyone like they did last year (Keith Null). Even if you like the guy, there is no sense in jumping the gun. If everyone thinks he's an undrafted at best player, don't snag him in the 6th round. That's what you traded Tye Hill for...remember?

So, as I said, the results are in. These aren't cumulative- just this weekend (you need to build the suspense for the champ!). Needless to say, it's ugly. Two people had perfect scores this week (there are a handful that snagged three right...and quite a few who completely blanked).

Winner:

Sergey606 - 4 wins

brandonbirkhead@yahoo.com - 4 wins

Against the Spread:

RaptorsHQ - 3 wins

The championship round will be up next..expect more tiebreakers, just for fun.

More on You Pick'Em later this week (Thursday most likely...It's all fun and games until you start lab classes). Enjoy your Tuesday nights!

TST You Pick'Em Division Weekend Edition!

Below is the form for the division weekend. Remember- all picks are cumulative (meaning these add-on to last week's). Make good choices, the spread is much bigger this time around...

TST You Pick 'Em Wildcard Weekend

That's right! You Pick'Em is back! With the Rams done for the year, you need some type of football challenge to keep you occupied. What better way then TST Pick'Em? Can you become the Champion?

TST: You Pick 'Em, week 9

The ballots, er, spreadsheets have been counted and the results are in for last week's You Pick 'Em contest.

We run two categories: winner and against the spread. The winner winners each picked 12 of 13 games. Things were tougher in the against the spread pool, with a three-way tie for first with 7 correct picks apiece.

This week's winners are:

WINNER
PCarn, 12
peteyweestro, 12

AGAINST THE SPREAD
mooseknuckles41, 7
james535, 7
BruinHalo, 7

Make you week 9 picks below the fold.
