2010 Community Mock Draft
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 31
Moving right along, it's time for dbcouver and the Colts to pick.
With the 31st pick in the draft the Colts select Maurkice Pouncey, C/G, Florida.
I got some help from Shake, Angels colts and the rest at Stampede blue for this. With the exception of the obvious the Colts have many of the same needs we do, just not as badly. They are still a superbowl caliber team so I stay away from the 'project' word. They need a 4-3 DE and OLB, as well as help all over the O-line. I'd say Maurkice Pouncy would be a great addition due to his versatility. O'drick and Price would also help but the DT position isn't in as bad a shape. I like Weatherspoon too, but his position isn't as important to fill in the first as that of O-line. With the fact that the next best OT on the board is Bruce Campbell, I guess I'd have to stick with Pouncey. He's a plug and play guy and that versatility is something I'd like to see in a Rams uniform if O-line was more of a priority. So with the 31st pick in the 2010 NFL draft the Indianapolis Colts select Maurkice Pouncey Guard/Center University of Florida.
VanRam: This year's draft has two really interesting prospects for the interior o-line, and predicting where Pouncey and Iupati will be drafted is really tough. kickasskeever is on the clock with the final pick of the first round.
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 30
We're nearing the end. As the first round goes along, we'll be taking a look back at our community mock draft. Keep it tuned in to TST tonight.
And here on behalf of the Vikings is NachoD.
With the 30th pick in the draft the Minnesota Vikings select Devin McCourty, CB, Rutgers.
I'm drafting taking for granted that Mr. Favre is coming back again for another try. I looked at the Vikings needs and followed the team blogs to see what the fans are clamoring for. The major areas that I felt that needed to be addressed were in the secondary (both cornerback and safety) and at offensive center. The losses of Matt Birk last season and Darren Sharper are still being felt. Cornerback Cedric Griffin's injury during the playoffs that ended his season is a concern for next year and Antoine Winfield is getting up there in years. An injection of young talent at the position is needed. I was hoping Taylor Mays or Earl Thomas would have been there for us but they are off the board. It came down to Maurkice Pouncey to address the center position, McCourty and Kareem Jackson, the corner from Alabama. McCourty is the pick because not only will he excel as a cornerback but his special teams work as a gunner, kick blocker and returner adds definite value.
VanRam: Interesting pick. McCourty is one of those guys making a late run up draft boards. The last half of the first round this year is going to be very interesting with all the talent available.
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 29
The mock mocks on. Here's ksmooth with the pick for the Jets.
With the 29th pick in the draft, the New York Jets select Everson Griffen, DE, USC.
After reviewing the Jets roster and offseason moves one of their major needs is a DE for their 3-4 defense. I would have been temped to take Golden Tate here since WR is another need but he was already off the board. The two best available DE's at this point in the draft were Griffen and Jared Odrick. It was a tough decison since I watched Odrick in the Senior Game and he was a good all around player with a non-stop motor. I think that Griffen is the better athlete and has more upside especially in the 3-4. I think he is a better pass rusher and can make an immediate impact in the Jets D. His 4.66 40-yard dash at the combine was impressive for his size and he is coming from a great pro style defensive team in USC. Just look at the LB's from USC in last years draft. I think with Griffen's upside he is a steal at #29 in the draft and just another piece to one of the best D's in the league.
VanRam: Griffen has first round talent, but the Jets really need someone to replace Vernon Gholston. Can Griffen be a 3-4 OLB?
Alright, we're almost done. NachoD and the Vikings are on the clock. Head over here and make your picks.
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 28
Moving right along, here's Carneros for the Chargers...
With the 28th pick in the draft the San Diego Chargers select Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama.
The Chargers have a big need in the middle of the line. They need a big nose tackle at the center of their line to help with Merriman and everyone else get pressure in the passing game and help in the run game. Many would argue that running back is the biggest need. It may be, but there isn't really anyone worth taking at running back at this point in the draft. Jahvid Best is probably the best option but he is not really an every down back. I can see them going with a guy like Montario Hardesty later in the draft, but I think Cody is the best player available that fills one of the Chargers three biggest needs. I also thought about Kareem Jackson here but I think they may decide the line is more important.
VanRam: Mt. Cody is off the board.
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 27
We're winding this down right as the real thing gets set to begin. Here's revrue914 with the Cowboys' pick.
With the 27th pick in the draft, the Dallas Cowboys select Golden Tate, WR, Notre Dame.
Jerry Jones and the Cowboys will probably try and trade down if Taylor Mays or Earl Thomas are not available and most of the top Offensive lineman are gone before they are on the clock. I think the Cowboys think about drafting Bruce Campbell but decide that although his workout at the scouting combine was really good, according to the scouts it doesn't match up in game film. The Cowboys add a new weapon for Tony Romo, giving the Cowboys a nice receiving corp(If Roy Williams steps his game up).
VanRam: The receiver class could get all shook up in this draft, with so much uncertainty about whether or not some of the top guys will go late in the first or early in the second. The trades will have much to say about that.
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 26
And now it's the Cardinals' turn. Here's thisguy with the pick.
With the 26th pick in the draft, the Arizona Cardinals pick Brandon Spikes, LB, Florida.
Obviously, the Cards had a couple of major departures from their team this offseason(Boldin, Rolle, Urban). Now is the time to see if their QB heir-apparent is up to the task. I'm skeptical of Anthony Becht's ability to get open and pull the ball in for him, but using him as a blocking tight end might help Leinart out more anyway. The Cards have developed some pretty effective receivers over the past few years, which of course is easier when you have a champ like Warner throwing to you. Now it's up to Leinart to pick up the slack, and they'll probably give him a couple years to do so. Despite the departure of Urban and Boldin, the picks of Doucet and Breaston later in their drafts makes me think that the Cards aren't worried about finding and building talent at the WR position, and won't need to replace Fitz for a good 8-10 years, hopefully (for their sake, not ours).
The addition of Porter helps their LB core being anchored on the ends by former Steelers, though Haggans is getting a bit older. Rhodes should replace Rolle decently at FS. DRC is still a mainstay at corner, leaving McFadden to deal with the 2's. Dockett is in his prime, and is playing pretty well; though Bryan Robinson is getting older, and would serve better in a mentor role to a young, strong NT to anchor their line. OLB could be a pick, but would be developmental while Haggans is still on the roster, and Porter now, for that matter.
My pick for the Cards is: LB Brandon Spikes, Florida
I almost went with Terrence Cody, but Spikes seems to be more bang for the buck, especially as he'll be mentored by 2 pretty good former Steelers LBs. He should be a good force against the run, and should be able to improve his pass protection over time. Either direction the Cards went, they don't have any glaring holes that have to be filled, having amassed pretty good depth over the past few years.
VanRam: The Cardinals are getting a nice little defense in place.
We're ready to move on and it's time for pick 27. Head over here and get your selections made ASAP. The Cowboys are on the clock.
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 25
Here with the Ravens' pick is loyal2therams
With the 25th pick in the draft, the Baltimore Ravens select Jason Pierre-Paul, DE, South Florida.
With Gresham and Wilson off the board, CBs Patrick Robinson and Devin McCourty were also considered. However, Pierre-Paul is the BPA because of his potential. The Baltimore defensive veterans and the coaching staff provide a perfect location to nurture Pierre-Paul. Trevor Pryce is 34, and 29 year old Cory Redding is an average player. The defense is aging, and although their sack numbers were high, they were extremely inconsistent in pressuring QBs last year. Also, Haloti Ngata played too many snaps at RE and should be playing at DT. Pierre-Paul's athleticism has allowed him to become an effective pass rusher, and he has plenty of room to develop technique. He only started football during his junior year in high school, and played only one year at the collegiate level. Although he is undeniably raw, Baltimore will probably develop him into an effective situational rusher at the worst.
VanRam: Every draft has its busts, and there are lots of people who think JPP could be one this year. I guess we'll see.
TST Community Mock Draft: Pick 24
Alright, we've been on hiatus with this and we're going to wrap it up this weekend, since next week is kind of a big one. Here's maybra48 with pick #24 on behalf of the Eagles.
With the 24th pick in the draft the Philadelphia Eagles select Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State.
There are some tempting Linemen options available at this point that I have slightly higher on my board but I feel that Wilson is a low-risk option that fits my defensive scheme the best. Wilson is an aggressive corner that really flourished as a team leader his senior year at Boise. He will be a hard guy to keep off the field early his first year, especially with such a thin secondary. Boise's scheme had him blitzing the QB from all over the field, as well as putting him in man coverage when others were blitzing. This experience will bode well in this aggressive Eagles scheme. His tackling has been criticized but Boise secondary players were often asked to go for the strip rather than just tackle. I think this area of his game is easy to fix and his muscular frame will allow him to hold up well physically. I feel he is a safer pick than a JPP, Bruce Campbell or Dunlap and with an extra early 2nd Rd pick a boom or bust selection can be made then. Also FS Nate Allen and OLB Daryl Washington filled greater needs but both are a reach this early in the draft and are likely available in the 2nd. I am willing to bet that Wilson would be the starting corner opposite Asanti Samuel by mid-season at the latest.
VanRam: A good pick who should keep the tradition of Philly's dangerous defensive backfield alive.
