FanShot Quotes

"I don’t care what anybody says (about Bulger). This is a helluva kid. He’s a pro’s pro and understands everything.

"We told him as soon as there’s clarity and we have a feel for how this will play out, he’ll be the first person to know. It could be anything, and he understands that. Our position right now is that he’s still a member of the Rams and if that ever changes we’ll be up front with Marc."

Free agent QB A.J. Feeley will visit with the Rams and is expected to sign there, a league source tells Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.
Feeley would be an interesting fit for the Rams. He knows offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur from their time together in Philadelphia and can play in the West Coast offense. With Matt Moore being handed the gig in Carolina, Feeley likely sees St. Louis as a place he could compete to start.

I keep hearing some very smart football people swear that the Rams have no choice but to draft Bradford because they failed to take Matt Ryan and Mark Sanchez the last two seasons.

Really?

That scares me because that sort of misguided logic violates one of the most sacred rules of smart drafting. As Giants general manager Jerry Reece said Saturday, "You should always try to avoid reaching for your needs in the draft."

Please don't do this because it's a matter of need, or worse yet, it's a business decision based on some silliness that you can't invest $12 million on a defensive tackle. It has to be because everyone is convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that Bradford is in fact a better player than Suh.

Here's what I rarely heard from the NFL folks who touted Bradford over the past few days: I never heard one of them say they were absolutely, positively certain that you draft Bradford because he's a can't-miss stud passer who will become the next Dan Marino, Joe Montana or Peyton Manning. Most of them said he was going to be a "good" quarterback. Some of them said he was going to be a "very good" quarterback.

Well, I don't want "good" or even "very good" with the first overall pick in the draft.

"I think Marc is extremely talented," Warner said last week. "I think he brings a lot to the table. But the thing you always realize as a quarterback is that you're never going to have great success if you don't have great players around you. They've obviously been going through a rebuilding process. A lot of changes have taken place over the last few years. Although Marc can still play, he hasn't had the opportunity to really do what he is capable of doing. That has been the frustrating part.

"You get labeled a lot of times based on the big picture, especially when you've had success. They expect, regardless of what goes on around you, you are supposed to throw for 30 touchdowns and 4,000 yards every year. I know I got caught in that mix when I went to New York and didn't have the gaudy stats, they are like, well, this guy is not the same guy, he can't bring much to the table, but so much is based on the team and what's around you and what opportunities you get."

"I’ve got a lot of respect for Michael as a player," Spags said. "Everything I’ve heard out of Philadelphia is kind of good. We haven’t gone down that road in our process yet. I think he’s a terrific player."

The St. Louis Rams have fired longtime head athletic trainer Jim Anderson.

Coach Steve Spagnuolo said Saturday that he would begin a search for a replacement. He said the move is not related to a rash of injuries during the team's 1-15 season.

Safety Craig Dahl’s rougher the kicker penalty last week against New Orleans cost the St. Louis Rams only five yards. But it cost Dahl $5,000. Dahl was fined by the NFL for running into Saints punter Thomas Morstead in the fourth quarter of the Rams’ 28-23 loss.

They came from all over, many of them leaving their teams and skipping practice, to be at Lincoln Financial Field for Friday’s memorial service honoring Jim Johnson. Steve Spagnuolo, head coach of the St. Louis Rams, John Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell were among the 300 guests in attendance.
