Closing in on the QB

We completely missed it, but the Rams signed Leonard Little during the season last year. So with Bulger, as we thought, the "will he leave" speculation was wild, wild speculation. Per today's story in the PD, it sounds like their close to making it happen.

Quoth the QB:

"I know we're really, really close to getting something done, and I want to be a part of it."

The coaching staff also notes that "long term plans" include Bulger.

Ok, now, let's wildly speculate what Bulger's worth.

I've been thinking about this for a while
Football "worth" is hard to determine imo.  The cap skews everything.  Anyway, I've been trying to think of a qb that he compares to.  I don't think he's in the same class as Brady and Manning.  Sure, I think he can play with those guys any day of the week, but they've both won at least 1 SuperBowl, so that kinda puts them ahead.

So who's next?  McNabb?  I think Bulger is better but it might be a good comparison.  Hasselbeck?  Yeah, maybe.  Farve?  Not really, he's a special case.

Well, I can't think of anyone else.  So, I would slot him behind Brady and Manning and right in there with McNabb and Hasselbeck.

hasselbeck
is signed for 6 years, 49 million, with 16 million guaranteed. that's pretty fair for bulger; like hasselbeck, i wouldn't expect him to finish the contract, though.

hasselbeck's contract:

good comparison
I think that Bulger and Hasselbeck are similar enough and playing in similar enough situations to make for a good comparison. that's certainly a deal the team and the fans could live with. I was particularly impressed with the leadership he showed this season when the team was on the skids.
