If you took the time to listen to Coach Jeff Fisher's interview yesterday, he was asked if it may be a possibility for him to keep 10 Dlineman on the 53 man squad and his response spoke volumes. He replied, stating that it is possible to "keep 12 defensive lineman".

Jeff Fisher interview

Folks, the only ones buying into the media hype of this competition are those who actually believe that either player can last through the waiver process and get to our practice squad. Hey newsflash, NEITHER PLAYER WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH THE WAIVER PROCESS.

Preseason and this entire process is all about those kind of players. Players like Ethan Westbrooks and Michael Sam who were overlooked for some reason or another in the draft (Sam should have been drafted higher but very few coaches wanted the extra that comes with his story), simply rise to the top as potential contributors through this process.

These grueling practices that rookies go through, weight room sessions, film work, all of that shows who can stay in the NFL and who can't.

Both Sam and Westbrooks have shown that they not only can play in this league, they have also shown Defensive Coordinator Gregg Williams enough. Williams has cracked the code on how best to use both of them.

And please don't get caught up on positions for either player. Fisher has made it clear that Micheal Sam is a Defensive End. Period.

Yet whenever you see him speak about Westbrooks, he tosses in the fact that Ethan Westbrooks has been playing "every position on the line"? So he could be labeled as a DT or DE.

Both players have made plays and shown their worth in my opinion. They have not only shown that they can get in an opposing team's backfield, but with the madman Gregg Williams calling the shots, there are simply too many situations you could use them both in, too many packages that could spell doom for offenses.

So bottom line, all the haters stop waiting to see the headline of Sam or Westbrooks getting let go, that is not gonna happen. There is a plan to keep 10 and they will do that somehow.
