Living To Fight Another Day

Outside of situations like blowouts or game number 16 when your playoff position is set in stone, are there times when it's best for the team, when the right thing to do is to not play one or more of your best players ? Tankin' for Teddy or for any player is not what is being suggested by any means.

Going into the Browns game, the state of our 0-line had a relevant degree of chaos to it. Players have been switching positions, that's got to add confusion. Jake was unsurprisingly rusty and getting beat. That Bradford was being pressured wasn't unexpected. Should our starting QB have even been in the game in that situation ? How about during the regular season ?

I hope the following doesn't sound like I'm bashing the Rams, I'm not, it's just my honest opinion. Either way, I'll be pulling for them every play, every day. I didn't even jump ship in the 90's. With that being said, the way it looks to me right now, our 0-line is most likely not going to be able to protect our QB this year. Our running game will be OK and our defense above average. If we're going to win, we'll have to pass more than a run heavy offense would.

Just for the sake of discussion on general principle, assume that I'm right about that, and assume we still have a QB who we think is our franchise guy. Do we drop him back to pass knowing he's not going to have enough time to pass, is gonna get hammered and most likely get injured too ? I remember watching a college football game quite a few years ago, seeing that I still have some friends here, I'll leave which team it was un-named. This particular team I was pulling for couldn't move the ball at all on the ground and in passing situations the QB was running for his life. He was scrambling really well but to no avail. He was getting hammered and they weren't completing passes. They were flat out getting killed. Fairly early In the second half the coach pulled the QB out. Part of me was upset because he was the only one doing anything. But deep inside I was happy with the decision. They had no chance of winning and I thought he was most likely gonna get injured.

So I want to hear what the TST'ers think. Assuming it's the situation I described above, and the QB is Bradford or someone you think is good, is it ok to take him out of the game or do we want our best players on the field at all costs ?

I also wouldn't mind hearing and disagreements with my judgment of the 0-line and team in general.

..... Just a thought

He always gets back up,
