Have Your Cake and Eat it Too

The most important position in all of professional sports is Quarterback.

Our number one priority needs to be securing the quarterback position for years to come. We must position ourselves to have two first round picks in 2015 so we can trade way up if we need a Quarterback. I do not believe it is in our organization’s best interest to blindly put all of our chips on Sam Bradford. I am rooting for Sam and actually very optimistic about his physical ability. MarkCrit’s analysis on Sam is very compelling to still provide us hope. We just cannot deny the fact that Sam is injury prone and has lost 30 of 49 games he started. I think it is reasonable to question his cognitive dexterity to play the position and win at a high rate. I believe it would be screwing over the long term Rams’ fans for Fisher and Snead to not secure our QB position for years to come. The reality is if Fisher and Snead bet on Sam and they lose they will both be jobless. And I will still be a frustrated fan with no positive long term plan. The Quarterback position is waaaayyyy too valuable. IMO this is the LUXURY of the RGIII trade. We have the luxury of seeing how Sam plays in 2014 and then making a decision for the long term benefit of our team at the end of the season. If we decide to go a different direction, we NEED the draft capital. If Sam works out like we all hope, we will again be in a strong position in the 2015 draft.

I believe it is very important for the Rams to choose their trade partner carefully. We need to trade with a team that will have a poor win percentage next year. We should not trade with a team that is close to winning like Atlanta, Titans, Browns, and Vikings (maybe). Our ideal partner would be the Raiders as they are in a very difficult division. I believe the best initial trade for our organization is to trade 1.2 for Raiders 1.5 and 2015 1st. Snead may also get them to include a 4th or 5th this year or possibly a 3rd round next year. This is a very realistic trade scenario that would benefit both teams. Once this trade is made then we can worry about staying put and still drafting elite talent OR trading back again to acquire more picks. We could probably trade with Raiders and have a shot at Mack, Watkins, Robinson or Matthews.
