The St. Louis Rams hold the 2nd and 13th overall picks in the upcoming NFL Draft. It feels as if every player has been linked to the Rams at one point or another. However, until Roger Goodell walks across that stage and repeats what Twitter has already told us, we won't know who will be lacing up for the Rams next season. What we can do in the mean time is take a look at the history of each pick.
Jeff Fisher has never made a pick in the 2nd slot of the draft, but the Rams have. The Rams history at 2 is a ballad of Love vs. Hate. 2008 selection, Chris Long, has had a solid career up until this point. Marshall Faulk was also selected at 2, however, not by the Rams. The Rams picked 2nd again in 2009, ending up with Jason Smith. On his very best day, Jason Smith was serviceable. Serviceable isn't a word that should be associated with a top 5 selection.
Outside of the Rams two selections, there has been more hits than misses. Von Miller, Ndamukong Suh, Calvin Johnson, Julius Peppers, and Donovan McNabb are a sample of the elite talent that can be found early in the draft.
If the Rams choose to stay at 2, which is no guarantee, hopefully they end up closer to the Megatron, Julius Peppers end of the spectrum.
