Why Is the Draft In May ?

Nothing stirs excitement for a hardcore football fan like the draft. it brings hope to fans for teams that struggled last year. A great draft will bring in young talent and propel your team to playoff glory. Some teams are one play maker away to making the playoffs. Then there are the playoff teams. Losing players either through free agency or age the draft will keep the dynasty alive. Those are the reasons are why we love the draft as fans

Now lets focus on when the draft is. Since 1984 the draft has taken place in mid April. This year it will take place for 3 days from May 8th -10th . So not only did the NFL make it a 3 day event but moved it to May. This means listening to endless debate about the draft, what will each team do, hearing how a player is moving up the boards or down, we get to read countless mock drafts by experts in there field, or anyone who has 2 minutes and a internet connection Mel Kiper JR has Teddy Bridgewater going in the early second round, WHAT? The man who is paid by the largest most powerful network in the world has mocked a player going in the top 5 a few weeks ago now thinks he goes 33rd?. He was a great QB in February come May he is not worthy I guess.

What about the endless conversation with friends, family and the guy wearing a jersey at Starbucks of the team with the 13th pick. I sound bitter don't I? I am.

I read all this crap and I am so tired of it I cant take it anymore .So why don't I just not read all the crap? Because I am addicted to it, you see I have been reading, hearing and talking about this time wasting, mind numbing drivel for 30 years. We all have to some degree . Think about it why does anyone care or need to tune into NFL network to watch a proday? Really how is your life better now that you have seen Johnny Football throw a pass in a glorified practice in a indoor facility? The NFL knows it has us, it added a extra week to the Super-Bowl. A whole 2 weeks of speculation and building excitement to the game. Now we can really focus on those match-ups, I mean who doesn't need to hear from the father of the punter in the Super Bowl? We need the inside scoop on his long snapping practice on Thursday.

Now it is adding a extra month before the draft. We get more "news" on rumors more "reports" from GM's who wont be named but decide to call some of these players "the best in a generation" or "lazy'. They are talking about the same guy. More "Inside" from beat reporters who mention there twitter accounts 10 times on sports talk radio. please, enough already. Yes its a money thing, May is sweeps week better ratings better revenue. yes it it build more excitement ,I am practicably drooling to know what is going to happen and yes I will watch. I am just tired of the NFL bullying fans because they can.
