Rams 1st Round Mock Draft

Personally, I haven't been able to look too much into who the Rams should draft after the first round. The reason for this is a multitude of things, including, but not limited to the fact that I'm just so excited about the possibilities that lie just in the first round for the Rams to capitalize on. I've thought of a ton of scenarios that could possibly happen in the first round and this one that I will show you is my most liked one. I'm not saying that it's the most possible or that it will happen, I'm just saying that it's the one that I like and would be the perfect situation in my opinion. In addition, I will go through a few other scenarios that I would possibly see happening. So, here we go..

With the second pick in the NFL draft, I believe the Rams will try their hardest to trade off this pick because of the potential stars in this top half of the draft is crazy. It doesn't matter who goes first, whether that be Clowney, Manziel, or someone unknown, at the second pick, the Rams will have plenty of ammo and reason for a team to want to trade up and take whatever player that desire. In this particular senario, I'd like to say that Clowney was taken over Manziel with the first pick, which I believe would be a mistake, but that's a different story for a different day. So, the major trade bait that the Rams would be Manziel. There are multiple teams, in my opinion. that could possibly take this bait and those teams would be the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars (just to make sure nobody hops them for him), and the Oakland Raiders. All three of these teams are in the first 5 picks in the draft. Then, you also have the Buccaneers and the Vikings. In my opinion, the best case scenario is the Cleveland Browns. The reason I say this is because I have two players right now that I believe the Rams should target with their pick. Those two players are Clowney and Watkins. With Clowney gone at the first pick, Watkins, for me, is a must have if we can get ourselves in the position to do so. With that said, here's how my scenario goes.

1. Houston Texans - Jadeveon Clowney

2. St. Louis Rams (trade to Cleveland Browns) - Johnny Manziel

3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Khalil Mack

4. Cleveland Browns (trade to St. Louis Rams) - Sammy Watkins

In this scenario, each team fills a major need and gets a very valuable player. When I say this is my dream scenario, I still try to stay realistic with my approach. But hey, lets switch it up a bit. What if the Rams can't draft down to the Cleveland Browns because they don't want to give us what we want, this would mean that the next best scenario would probably be the Oakland Raiders. But, lets switch it up even more, lets say that instead of taking Clowney with the 1st pick, the Houston Texans actually go with Johnny Manziel with the first pick, this would force many teams to reevaluate their teams and ask would it be worth it to trade up for him.

1. Houston Texans - Johnny Manziel

2. St. Louis Rams (trade to Oakland Raiders) - Jadeveon Clowney

3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Blake Bortles

4. Cleveland Browns - Sammy Watkins

5. Oakland Raiders (Trade to St. Louis Rams) - Greg Robinson

Once again, each of the teams in the top part of the draft fill major needs with players would could be very valuable in the future, including the Rams. This scenario is a bit wacky because we have Bortles going in the top 3 and the Rams are picking an OT, when Fisher has never picked on in the first as we continuously get told by people against the pick. One thing you cannot deny though is he would fill a hole on the team and nobody should be extremely mad by the pick.

Now we go to the second pick in the first round that we have. Personally, I think the Rams should be really aggressive with this pick and even look to trade up if they see a player that they really like. With this pick, I'll continue with my dream scenario mock draft.

1. Houston Texans - Jadeveon Clowney

2. St. Louis Rams (trade to Cleveland Browns) - Johnny Manziel

3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Khalil Mack

4. Cleveland Browns (trade to St. Louis Rams) - Sammy Watkins

5. Oakland Raiders: Blake Bortles

6. Atlanta Falcons: Greg Robinson

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Teddy Bridgewater

8. Minnesota Vikings (trade to St. Louis Rams): Jake Matthews

With this trade, the Rams once against choose to fill in a gap on the offensive side of the ball, but this time they choose to get an Offensive Linemen. Sure, Fisher has never draft an Offensive Linemen in the first, but he may have to this season. Jake Long is a question mark at health and we don't even know when he's coming back. With that, we need a RT as well, so even if Jake does come back we can stick Matthews at the RT spot and I think we'd be just fine. If the Rams want to be aggressive in the draft and go for the jugular, I would not only be happy with it, but I would be impressed as well. Now, lets look at the second mock I have up there, shall we?

1. Houston Texans - Johnny Manziel

2. St. Louis Rams (trade to Oakland Raiders) - Jadeveon Clowney

3. Jacksonville Jaguars - Blake Bortles

4. Cleveland Browns - Sammy Watkins

5. Oakland Raiders (Trade to St. Louis Rams) - Greg Robinson

6. Atlanta Falcons - Khalil Mack

7. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Jake Matthews

8. Minnesotta Vikings(Trade to St. Louis Rams) - Mike Evans

The 8 spot seems to be a prime place in my head where the Rams can trade up, for this scenario, I will explain why. Sure, the Vikings might want Bridgewater, but they can get him at the 13 spot as well. Look at the teams between the Vikings and the Rams, they go as followed:

Buffalo Bills

Detroit Lions

Tennessee Titans

New York Giants

I don't believe any of those teams has a major need to jump on Bridgewater considering all of those teams have bigger problems at hand. Sure, I team could try to leapfrog them to get him, but they could trade back up if they truly think he's worth it. With this trade, they get more picks to play with and they need as much help as they can get. I have use trading up in both of these mocks for one reason and one reason only, it's time. The Rams can't just sit idly by and let talent get away from them anymore. As the NFC West gets harder and harder to contend in each year, the Rams must also improve. This is a draft of a team that knows they need a few more parts to legitimately for years to come. Sure, my predictions are highly unlikely and probably won't happen, but I think these two scenarios are good to look at and think about because they would make this team overall better. As for you people who are yelling for defense, that's what the second and third rounds can be used for. This offense is holding this team back from contending, which is why I think this team should go offense heavy in the first.

What do you think? Would you be happy with these? If you had to pick between the two, which one would you pick? Thanks for reading and humoring my thoughts.
