Forget all the hype about the Free Agency. Clearly we are not making any major moves and all the attention in the front office is towards the draft. The Snead/Fisher era has been full of surprises thus far and the two drafts we've been involved with so far have been interesting and has had quick impacts from rookies besides some (cough B.Quick cough). However, this draft I expect to be the best one yet. The number of top tier prospects are phenomenal and we control the first round. Knowing the mindset of Snead, we can go in many different directions. I've seen many post combine mocks that have us taking Robinson which is the popular pick. Deep down I see many Rams fans crumbling inside not going after arguably the best potential play maker in years with Watkins. I believe if we do stay with the 2nd pick we take Watkins and hope Lewan is still available at 13, but I see us using the #2 pick as trade bait and moving down within the 6-10 pick. So here are some different scenarios that can happen and I would like to see in a perfect world.
1) Pick 2: Robinson, Pick 13: Evans
2) Pick 2: Watkins, Pick 13: Lewan
3) Pick 6 (Trade with Atlanta) Robinson or Matthews, Pick 13: Evans, Gilbert, Dix
Our 2nd pick is all dependent on Houston. Choosing a QB will put us in a great spot and the war room will be all smiles. Trading the 2nd pick will allow us to slide back and still obtain a top prospect and allow us to gain another 2nd rounder which would let us have 4 of the top 40 picks in the draft. Any of these scenarios I would not be mad about and each would address a need. I really like the play making ability of Evans. The kid is a monster and would give defensive coordinators nightmares with Tavon in the slot at 6'5 Evans on the outside. Gilbert is an all out beast. His ball-hawking skills along with his kick return game is just what we need. A rotation with Jenkins, Johnson, Gilbert and McGee sounds pretty good. Clinton Dix who has played for Saban's dynasty only comes from the best and competes against the best. This pick would be a smart one and fill in a hole we addressed in the 3rd round last year with McDonald.
I appreciate the read and let me know what you guys think.
P.S. If any of you are wondering why I didn't include Clowney. It's a waste of a pick.
